Irene Blair Whitaker of Letcher, KY passed away on November 29, 2000 at the Whitesburg Hospital. She was
born on October 9, 1918, being 82 years, 1 month and 29 days of age at the time of her passing. She was the
daughter of the late Alamander and Martha Jane Jent Blair.
Irene was a retired dietician for the LKLP Head Start program. Her hobbie included quilt making, cooking and
studying the Bible. Irene joined the Me. Olivet Old Regular Baptist Church in October, 1990 and was baptized on
the third Sunday in October by Bro. I.D. Back and Bro Toby Breeding.
Surviving Irene are her husband; Woodrow Whitaker, four daughters; Barbara Back, Jane Whitaker, Bonita
Ruth Mullis and Nina Barnett, four sisters; Beulah Hampton, Dixie Helphinstine, Arla Sheets and Bobbie jean
Edwards, five grandchildren; Bonita Harbeson, Sandy Mullis, Jamie Branscume, Sara Griss and Alice Combs,
two great grandchildren; Michael Harbeson and Jasmine Combs. She was preceded in death by a son,
Woodrow Whitaker Jr.
Woodrow has lost a wonderful wife, the children and grandchildren have lost a beloved mother and
grandmother, and the community in between the bridges has lost a fine neighbor, but the Lord has gained a
beautiful rose for his garden.
