Benton Gilbert, age 76, of Patridge died August 10, 2002 at his home.  A native of Gordon, he believed the
Baptist faith.

    He worked as a miner for U.S. Steel and Arch Minerals for 35 years.  He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He was a member of UMWA Local 7425 and was an avid catfisherman.

    He was preceded in death by his father, William Gilbert; his mother, Mary Cornett Gilbert; and two sisters
and three brothers.

    Survivors include his wife, Roberta Lloyd Gilbert, Partridge; three daughters, Shirley Robbins and husband,
Ronnie, Maynardville, Tennessee; Shelia McDowell and husband, Ronnie, Pineville; Sharon Brown and husband,
Marvin, Cumberland; a son, Chester Gilbert, Middlebury, Indiana; a brother, John Gilbert, Dione; a sister, Grace
Clark, Hiram; and eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 12, 2002 at the Tri-City Funeral Home with Harvey
Creech, Jim Fields and Danny Dixon officiating.  Burial followed at the Peaceful Acres Cemetery.

    Chris Robbins, Codie McDowell, Jamie Sergent, James Brown, Paul Helton and Joel Collins served as
