|MILDRED KATHERINE HOOPER LUSK
May 21, 1925-June 14, 2003
Mom, it has been a year since you have been gone. We miss you so much. Mildred, of Ulvah, Kentucky,
passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Health Care Center, after a long
illness. She was 78 years and 24 days old.
Mom was the daughter of the late Doyle and Bessie Adams Hooper of Mayking, Kentucky. Mildred was a
member and deaconess of the Mt. Olivet Old Regular Baptist Church in Blackey, Kentucky. She was a retired
secretary and librarian in the Letcher County School District.
Mildred was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, William “Poppy” Lusk. Brother Glenn Hampton always
called Mom, “Mommy Doll” and he called Dad, “Poppy.” She was a precious, sweet, dear and loving mother to her
three children: one daughter, Willetta Griffith, and two sons, James Lusk and Don Lusk.
She was “Mama” to six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mom had one sister, Georgia Blair, of
Somerset, Kentucky and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
We love you Mom and always will remember you!
Dad, Sis, Jim & Don
|THE BROKEN CHAIN
We knew that morning, that soon
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
